What each tool does
- Where is the sun now? A live compass with the sun's and moon's direction and height for any of 747 cities or your own location, plus where the sun rises and sets on the solstices — useful for solar panels, gardens and planning a photo.
- How to find north Four ways to find north with no compass or signal — the shadow stick, the noon shadow, the watch method and the stars — with today's solar noon for your area.
- Distance between cities The straight-line (great-circle) distance in kilometres, miles and nautical miles, the direction to set off in and the time difference.
- Day and night map A live world map showing where the sun is up, where it is twilight and where it is night, and the spot where the sun is directly overhead.
Everything is calculated on your device. If you choose "Use my location", your position is used only in your browser and never sent to us.
